Morgan Sindall Engineering Solutions are seeking an ambitious and talented Design Manager to join our design consultancy within one of the most successful businesses in the UK construction and Infrastructure Industry.

As an in-house team of experts, Morgan Sindall Engineering Solutions offer leading design innovation and technical support across Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure, as well as the wider Morgan Sindall Group.

Our engineering design specialists work in collaboration with project teams to devise designs for vitally important infrastructure projects across the UK, deploying our expert capabilities to make customers’ ambitions a reality.

Role Summary

The Design Manager role is a project based with responsibilities to manage design from supply chain design partners on  projects with multiple design interfaces.
You will draw on previous knowledge to define project specific processes and strategy for design management appropriate to the size of project.

Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Produce design management plan in line with IMS & contract requirements then monitor compliance.

  • Liaise with project management team & design team to agree design scope & interfaces

  • Coordinate production of design programme & integration with project programme (P6).

  • Agree metrics to monitor progress & earned value for design activities, monitor weekly & intervene to address blockers.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders on design matters e.g. project team / supply chain for buildability, any third party consultations / approvals, any interfacing projects, commercial team, client approvals.

  • Arrange suitable & timely design meetings to support stakeholder input.

  • Liaise with commercial teams to ensure early warnings relating to design matters are concise & communicated in a timely manner

  • Contribute to and monitor / track any agreed mitigation actions related to risks.

 

About you

You will;

  • Be qualified to a minimum of BEng(Hons) in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Hold membership of a relevant professional institute and be committed to achieving chartered engineer status if not already chartered
  • Have 5 years experience in one or more of the sectors we operate (rail, energy, water, highways, nuclear or aviation)
  • Have experience with either in design management or site management with engineering bias.
  •  Be a very strong communicator, with the ability to drive the design forward. Some technical capability is preferred but not essential.
  • Ideally have knowledge of up-to-date digital processes, together with experience of Viewpoint & other CDEs.
  • Some knowledge of processes in support of carbon reduction would be beneficial.
