Two colleagues working on the M5 Oldbury viaduct project

We believe in caring for our people, so they go home safe and fit every day

It is critical to us that we not only provide safe places to protect people who work for us, but also to create a safe environment for communities who live around our sites and who benefit from the projects we deliver.

Our ambition of being 100% Safe is underpinned by creating a culture that supports the health and wellbeing of all colleagues. We believe a truly effective, transparent, and learning safety culture emerges when everyone is engaged and involved in discussions around how we can do things more safely to keep people fit and well. This is why we have a developed a dedicated Human Performance Programme which is aligned to our culture and values and encompasses the principles of how we behave, communicate and our approach towards being safe and looking out for each other.

Our 100% Safe pillars:

Safe places - creating environments which provide security and protection from harm

Safe by choice - choosing to be safe, avoiding unnecessary risks

Safe relationships - gaining trust through active engagement, collaboration and feedback

Safe by design - staying safe by undertaking proper planning and making the right decisions

Safe lives - caring for people, promoting health and wellbeing for everyone who works with us.

Our 100% Safe ambition is governed by our Five Pillars and managed through robust safety, health and wellbeing improvement plans that are developed from our performance results and by taking learnings from our innovative thinking and experiences.

We constantly ask ourselves, ‘what if?’, so that we can mitigate as many potential risks as possible and where appropriate consider innovation and new ways of working. We also use Continuous Improvement Groups (CIGs) who involve a cross section of stakeholders to further improve our approach. The outputs from these groups are then shared through targeted communications across our business, supply chain, customers, and communities.
