Rail
We create and renew rail infrastructure that connects communities, improves passenger experience, and increases freight capacity. We deliver station accessibility improvements, platform extensions and electrification works across the UK rail network.
Recent projects include the Northumberland Line and major station renewals. Enhancing the country’s rail capabilities is vital in delivering long-term, sustained shift in transport usage, cutting congestion and reducing carbon emissions.
There’s 20,000 miles of railway track in the UK, from the inter-city routes that take you to and from work to the tracks that pass through some of the country’s most beautiful countryside. All of it needs to be maintained and upgraded when necessary to keep communities connected, journeys comfortable, and rail travel more efficient for everyone.
Our dedicated teams work with customers and supply chain partners across the UK to enhance lines, platforms, and stations, connecting people to jobs and families and creating a safer, faster, less congested experience for all rail users.
Vast engineering expertise enables us to challenge the status quo and deliver better railways. Whether its major rail infrastructure schemes, electrification projects, tunnelling works, or renewing railway assets, we always aim to complete our work to the highest standards, with minimum disruption for passengers. Our innovative working practices include completing the largest curved concrete portal push in the UK.
Lines
One of the best examples of our expertise in rail infrastructure is our work on the Northumberland Line, which began in 2022. Together with our trusted supply chain partners, we built six new stations, each one designed to meet the specific needs of the project at hand.
Upgrading rail infrastructure like this is about more than the practical benefits to passengers and rail companies – it’s about supporting communities. Delivering better lines, better platforms, and more stations improves employment, housing and education prospects, because it gives people access to towns and cities that they otherwise might struggle to reach.
Stations
We’ve built and upgraded stations across the country, from small local stops to major transport hubs, making journeys smoother for thousands of passengers every day. Whether we’re improving accessibility with new footbridges and lift access, or building new platforms to increase capacity and reduce congestion, we deliver the quality of station that passengers deserve.
Rail stations can be more than just transport hubs – they can be community centrepieces. That’s the case with Colindale Station, which we are currently constructing in the London Borough of Barnet, in Zone 4 on the Northern Line. The striking aesthetics of the station will be matched by its capability to keep passenger journeys flowing, with greater capacity and improved accessibility.
Our turnkey project delivery capability is complemented by our specialist in-house design, electrification, rail systems, and civil delivery teams. Our extensive and proven supply chain partners provide us with the strength and depth we need to provide the most complex, effective rail infrastructure across the country.
Collaboration is key to the way we work, ensuring that our projects meet deadlines and deliver the impact our clients expect. This approach was vital in our Kings Cross remodelling project, which included an array of tasks, from realigning platforms to diverting Victorian sewers. Together with our partners, we were able to save Network Rail over £100,000 in project costs, and achieve full project delivery with just 101 days of partial station closure – a significant reduction on the proposed year-long alternative.
We approach each project with the same tenacity and dedication, regardless of scale. Our in-house teams and external partners form effective relationships to deliver projects on time and on budget, bringing the UK rail network up to standard nationwide and improving the country’s transport capabilities.
