Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has appointed Morgan Sindall Infrastructure to deliver the main construction work for the Sprint corridor on the A45 between Bordesley Circus and Brays Road in Yardley.

Work along the A45 is expected to be completed by March 2022.

Sprint is a priority bus corridor that will link Walsall with the centre of Birmingham, Solihull and Birmingham Airport - joining the A34 with the A45 to create one continuous route.

Sprint will integrate with other schemes such as the Midland Metro tram and eventually HS2 to create a truly integrated network.

It will bring benefits for all bus passengers along the corridor, providing more reliable, regular and predictable journey times, connecting our region and protecting our environment - including bringing over £200 million in economic benefits.

Passengers using services that operate along the Sprint corridor will benefit from the delivery of new and extended bus lanes, with vehicles receiving priority at traffic lights. This will help to improve the speed of services travelling between stops and could cut journey times by 20% at peak times.

Buses will spend less time at stops, with the introduction of ticketing machines installed at state-of-the-art new shelters, designed to improve both comfort and safety.

Sandeep Shingadia, director of development & Delivery for Transport for West Midlands said: “We’re very pleased to announce Morgan Sindall Infrastructure as our construction partner along the A45 part of the Sprint corridor. It is a significant milestone for both TfWM and for the Sprint project. As one of the UK’s leading infrastructure companies, we know that the A45 is in good hands.”

Paul Gott, managing director for Morgan Sindall Infrastructure’s highways business, said: “We’re very pleased to be working with Transport for West Midlands on this project. The Sprint corridor will bring much needed public transport links. Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is proud that we can play our part in making this a reality for the people of the West Midlands.”

Morgan Sindall Infrastructure will provide notices to households and businesses along the A45 of works before they take place.
