Opportunity:
We have a fantastic opportunity within our Highways business unit for an ambitious and talented Technical Engineer and Temporary Works Coordinator
We are currently seeking a civil engineer to join our engineering team within the Highway business unit. The role is suited to someone wanting to work on the technical, assurance, temporary works and quality aspects of site-based engineering for project delivery.
Purpose:
- The role of a technical engineer is to focus on the technical aspects of construction.
- The technical engineer maintains a position of independence from the delivery team in order that they can provide independent judgment.
- From this position of independence, intervention may be necessary to stop works in the case of significant change to construction methodology, sequencing, temporary works, or impact on permanent works, or if anything or anyone is at risk from a potential engineering failure.
- Developing and promoting high quality, safe, efficient, innovative and low carbon engineering activities and solutions, for both temporary and permanent works on a site.
- Contribute to the development of permanent works and temporary works design to ensure buildability and that the requirements of CDM, as principal designer and principal contractor are discharged.
- Oversee the technical and quality aspects of construction on a site and ensure the relevant processes and procedures are followed.
- Undertake the role of temporary works coordinator on one or more projects.
- Promote the use, integration and development of digital techniques such as 3D models, paperless information management and common data environments.
- Promote and contribute to the successful digital handover of the completed project.
- Contribute technical knowledge and experience to the project’s quality assurance and control process.
- Lead by example.
The person:
- Degree in civil or structural engineering. (Masters desirable)
- Working towards chartered membership of the ICE or equivalent institution within the next 4 years. (essential)
- Engineering management (desirable)
- Design management experience (desirable)
- Construction experience (desirable)
- Highway experience (desirable)
- Temporary works experience (essential)
- Knowledge of the Specification for Highways Works and Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and Standards for Highways. (essential).
