Opportunity
Lead a business focused payroll function within the Shared Service Centre. Building strong relationships and working with stakeholders in the business to drive a fast paced programme of change activities, standardising and optimising process in the first instance before bringing new technology and systems to the business to future proof ourselves and allow for further growth.
Alongside this the successful candidate will ensure high standards of payroll processing are maintained ensuring employees are paid on time and correctly both in accordance with current legislation and company policies.
As a member of the Service Centre Management Team, you will work as an integral part of the function providing wider strategic direction for the centre whilst ensuring that your direct reports are motivated and supported with opportunities to learn and grow.
Responsibilities and accountabilities
As part of the Payroll Management team, in a strategic but at times “hands on” role, you will be required to: -
- Lead and contribute to specific strategic initiatives and projects, working with customers, partners and stakeholders to achieve our shared goals.
- Build effective relationships with stakeholders and develop and support shared arrangements for services and systems.
- Overall responsibility for allocation and use of the payroll budget
- Assist the Payroll Manager & Supervisor(s) in prioritising and allocating staffing to support the monthly and weekly processing requirements and target pressure points within the service along with identifying continuous improvement opportunities.
- Oversee the production of the annual PSA & P11D returns and be responsible for payments and submissions to HMRC.
- Responsible for the approval of all payrolls, third party and adhoc payments.
- Review and propose changes to processes and working methods that will improve the efficient use of resources and the effectiveness of service delivery.
- Ensure GDPR regulations are adhered to ensuring secure maintenance of staff records including archiving and filing.
- Ensure a robust KPI process is available, with a view to improve standards and controls both internally and externally to Payroll.
- Provide cover for other Payroll Manager in their absence.
Experience and qualifications required
- Must be a CIPP qualified professional.
- Strong and demonstrable experience of operating at a strategic level, ensuring an excellent service is delivered to both internal and external customers.
- Excellent end to end knowledge and experience of a Payroll/HR system implementations is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead strategic change through promoting and enabling a continuous improvement culture.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience in a construction industry environment with knowledge of CIJC & NAECI, TUPE transfers and complex T&C’s, is preferable.
- Knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation required.
- Demonstrated leadership ability. Able to keep momentum and show resilience in a fast changing environment.
- Effective planning and time management, excellent attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Excellent people skills with the ability to ensure standards are met and that staff have ample opportunities to learn and grow.
