Opportunity:
We have a fantastic opportunity within our Highways business unit for an ambitious and talented Technical Manager – GIS.
Role responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Design\create GIS standards and specifications.
- Establish the appropriate GIS Database and associated Technology to effectively manage the data through Surveys, Mobilisation, Delivery, and Information Exchanges.
- Provide Onboarding to all users of the GIS system and ongoing capability support.
- Create, configure and manage FME and ArcGIS data update processes.
- Create, configure and manage FME and ArcGIS data transformation processes.
- Design, create, configure and manage ArcGIS Enterprise web map applications based on client requirements.
- Design, create and configure database schemas to effectively visualise data.
- Be able to create data interfaces from conceptual stage to live implementation, using appropriate GIS technologies such as ESRI and FME.
- Create, configure and manage processes for CAD to GIS integration.
- Must have a good working knowledge of FME and ArcGIS Enterprise\ArcGIS Online.
- Must have a good working knowledge regarding database core concepts and design.
- Must be enthusiastic regarding improving the GIS system.
- Must have experience in CAD to GIS translations.
- Desirable, but not essential, to have experience of working on National Highways projects.
The GIS lead will develop and manage the new framework for GIS as a core part of the Digital Engineering function, to maximise the use of GIS across the Highways Business unit.
The GIS technical lead will provide expert advice and innovative solutions, using specialist software such as ArcGIS and QGIS, to deal with the challenges of managing and presenting large geospatial datasets.
They will also provide project managers across the Highways Business Unit with relevant spatial data analyses to advise project teams about relevant constraints including Health and Safety, environmental and ecological requirements, and stakeholder engagement.
They will be involved in providing GIS databases for key functions in the Highways Business unit including, HR, Work Winning, Procurement and Materials Engineering.
Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who has a relevant degree qualification, with experience of using GIS software to provide geospatial data and insight to support project and business decisions.
They will need to have:
- A relevant technical and/or professional qualification in GIS or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in using GIS software (including ArcGIS and QGIS) and associated geospatial databases and database management systems to meet wide-ranging business needs.
- Demonstrable experience in linking GIS into other business IT systems.
- A proven ability to think creatively and logically to develop innovative and timely GIS solutions for complex data management and processing problems.
