Opportunity:                  

Health & Safety Manager to work across the A423 Kennington Improvements Programme and Scheme Delivery Framework in the Highways business unit. The Health & Safety Manager will directly support the Project Directors and their teams to ensure that a consistent approach and the highest standards regarding health and safety are maintained. They will provide professional advice for the safe delivery and handover to the Client.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Support project delivery with a focus on improving health and safety performance within the programme.
  • Support the Head of SHEQ and Project Director/s to implement the strategic Responsible Business Strategy and Improvement plan.
  • Ensure all Morgan Sindall Infrastructure health, safety and wellbeing campaigns, initiatives and improvements are effectively delivered throughout the projects.
  • To manage the planning and implementation of risk mitigation programmes including inspections, safety training/briefings and occupational health and safety compliance.
  • Provide advice and assistance so that others understand their health and safety obligations and how to achieve them.
  • Lead on the delivery of H&S assurance and monitoring, through a risk-based audit and surveillance regime across projects and supply chain.
  • Advise and support the project teams on health and safety matters and assist them to discharge their duties.
  • Ensure investigations, reports, presentations, and performance statistics are submitted accurately and on-time as directed.
  • Ensure the identification and sharing of best practice, positive safety performance and learning from incidents.
  • Ensure all sites are subject to surveillance, inspection and audits, records kept, and data uploaded into the appropriate systems.
  • Collaborate closely with the supply chain to enable them to understand and deliver their commitments under the contract with regards to health and safety standards and take appropriate action when required.
  • Consider supply chain health and safety performance and identify relevant leading indicators to improve H&S performance and monitor/report on same.
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected in the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working to Morgan Sindall policies, standards, and best practice requirements.
  • Co-operate with Morgan Sindall in all matters relating to health and safety, always including following safe working procedures.
  • Act as a role model for Morgan Sindall’s vision and values and behaving in ways that are in alignment with them. Encourage and support others to do so too.
  • Promote equality in the workplace and adopt appropriate behaviour when interacting with colleagues.
  • Take necessary care to properly protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of corporate information from unauthorised disclosure, modification or destruction. Never knowingly put Morgan Sindall’s information or information systems at risk.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Past experience in Rail or Highways will be advantageous
  • Proven experience of delivering in a similar role and evidence of successful management in a complex organisation with multiple interfaces
  • Qualified to degree level with a NEBOSH Diploma or (S)NVQ level 5 or equivalent, in occupational health and safety supported by appropriate and relevant continuous professional development
  • Experience in infrastructure or construction environments advantageous.
