Our Energy Business Unit are delivering the backbone of tomorrow’s energy grid. We’re strengthening our engineering capability to deliver major overhead line (OHL) and transmission projects across the UK. 

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Civils Project Manager to lead the construction of a new Grid Supply Point (substation) at Brycir, North Wales. This £20m PTNO/PTC1 project, part of National Grid’s Great Grid Partnership, is currently in its ECI phase, with site access planned for July 2026 and completion by the end of 2028. You will set the standard for safety, culture, and behaviour on site, preparing and implementing Safe Systems of Work, and ensuring successful delivery from conception to completion in line with Morgan Sindall standards. Civils and earthworks experience is essential, energy sector experience is desirable, and SMSTS and First Aid qualifications are required. You will manage all aspects of the project, driving quality, programme, and customer satisfaction while leading a multidisciplinary team to achieve outstanding results.

The Candidate:

  • Civils & earthworks experience is essential
  • Energy sector experience desirable
  • SMSTS & First Aid required
  • Degree or HNC/HND qualified in a relevant technical discipline
  • Proven experience of working with and managing contractors within a traditional construction project
  • Sound understanding and experience in the application of safety legislation and corporate safety procedures, including CDM
  • Good understanding of commercial issues affecting project performance and experience in assessing value / evaluating variations of construction works undertaken

About our Energy business unit

We have extensive experience in upgrading and replacing energy networks, delivering asset management for major UK energy companies and network operators.

Our transmission and distribution services involve the upgrading and replacement of electricity assets both above and below ground. Within the electricity sector we install and maintain assets, including excavation, laying and jointing of cables, (fluid filled and XLPe), substations and overhead line, new build, repair and refurbishment services.
