The Project
The Metrowest scheme will reconnect Bristol and Portishead by rail, providing the capability to introduce an hourly (or better) passenger service between Bristol Temple Meads, Pill, and Portishead along the Portishead single line [ELR: POD].

The scheme includes:

  • A new station at Pill
  • A new station at Portishead
  • Track works extending from Ashton Gate Level Crossing (121m 18ch) to Portishead Station (129m 30ch)

Role Overview

We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Consents Manager to support the successful delivery of the Metrowest scheme. The project is subject to a Development Consent Order (DCO), and this role will be key in managing the numerous consent submissions and ensuring all requirements are discharged in line with the construction programme.

 

You’ll be responsible for coordinating, tracking, and discharging consents, working closely with design, construction, and environmental teams to maintain full compliance. As the scheme progresses, you’ll also oversee ongoing monitoring and assurance activities to ensure all commitments and conditions remain fully met throughout delivery.

 

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Manage the full lifecycle of consent submissions and discharges in line with project and DCO requirements
  • Develop and maintain a consents register, tracking progress against programme milestones
  • Liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders, including local authorities, statutory bodies, and regulators
  • Ensure consents are obtained in a timely manner to support construction activities and avoid delays
  • Provide technical advice on consent conditions and constraints to the project team
  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of consent documentation, ensuring accuracy and quality
  • Monitor compliance throughout delivery, undertaking regular reviews and assurance activities
  • Maintain clear and auditable records of all consents, approvals, and correspondence
  • Support engagement with stakeholders to resolve queries and maintain strong working relationships
  • Identify potential risks or challenges to compliance and work collaboratively to develop solutions
