Infrastructure Strategic Alliance (ISA), which we're delivering in joint venture with Arup, is responsible for the infrastructure portfolio, masterplanning and feasibility and design studies across Sellafield, Europe's most complex nuclear site. ISA also plays an important part in driving economic growth across West Cumbria.

Now in its third five year term, ISA provides a site wide consistent approach to the delivery of infrastructure projects by combining the latest industry techniques with specialist expertise from other sectors. The Alliance defines, manages, constructs, commissions and hands over a range of projects set out in the ISA Works Programme.

This long-term programme of investment and change on the Sellafield site has been introduced to minimise the risk of production plant downtime due to infrastructure asset degradation. Delivery of this Alliance requires a fresh approach to managing the assets at Sellafield, paying attention to schedule and cost improvement.

Our project scope includes:

  • Steam and electricity generation and onsite distribution
  • Water supply to site and onsite distribution
  • Compressed air generation and distribution
  • Civil infrastructure supporting pipes and cables
  • Drainage network and sewerage treatment plant
  • Roads, bridges and car parks
  • General building facilities such as canteens and laundry

Making a difference

Through our Creating Careers in Cumbria programme, we aim to attract long-term unemployed candidates from within the boroughs of Copeland and Allerdale to provide them with both work experience and training that will increase their prospects for future employment. Where possible, we will explore the option of recruiting some of the candidates within our own organisation or referring them to our supply chain.

We believe in the next generation and as part of this, we work extensively with local educational providers. This includes a platinum partnership with the Energy Coast University Technology College (UTC), where we provide training and support including work experience placements, educational equipment, governor support and career opportunities.
