The project provides a vital piece of energy infrastructure to Scotland and helps with the connection of onshore wind generation in the area around Tomatin, in the Highlands. It has been delivered by MSVE Transmission, a joint venture between Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and Omexom, and is part of our five year framework agreement for electricity transmission overhead line (OHL) work with Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).

Our work involved the design, construction and coordination of the OHL project and all associated works, including underground cable connections and public road improvements. We also engaged with other contractors who are working on behalf of SSEN on the wider scheme.

Project fact:

Due to the vast location of the site, a 20 kilometre access road was constructed to enable the team to reach the tower locations.

Making a difference

To negate the need for scaffolding on the cable works, our team devised a method using horizontal cable terminations for the new connection, saving money, increasing safety and reducing the programme duration by six weeks.
