Morgan Sindall Infrastructure is excited to announce that construction is underway on its purpose-built training academy in Staffordshire, dedicated to empowering professionals in overhead line work and underground cabling.

Located in Swynnerton, the new facility will play a pivotal role in attracting new colleagues to Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and reinforcing its commitment to the long-term growth of the UK energy sector.

The academy will serve a dual purpose, helping to achieve the ambitious growth needed within the UK energy sector, and enhancing and retaining the skills of its Energy team, all through its accredited training programmes.

Opening later this year, the site will showcase state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance skill sets and enable teams to refine their techniques before practical application in real-world scenarios. It will feature modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology, providing a conducive learning environment for its trainees. Additionally, to ensure a comprehensive training experience, on-site accommodation will also be available for trainees, fostering a holistic approach to skill development.

With two 80-metre spans of overhead lines equipped with various conductor configurations, trainees will have the opportunity to practice under diverse conditions, allowing them to upskill and master a range of techniques and challenges encountered in the field. All the equipment used will replicate the current and future equipment to be deployed by our customers National Grid and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks. Additionally, there will be a customised area for training pullers/tensioners and other equipment operators. The training facility will also serve as a testing ground for innovative solutions such as the CatchBlock system by Slingco and alternative foundation designs before implementing them on projects.

"Through our investment in this facility, our aim is to nurture our existing team and cultivate the next generation of highly skilled workers who can effectively meet the evolving demands of the industry head-on."
